Best BJJ Camp in Brazil

We’ve looked across the country to find the best BJJ camp in Brazil. This is no easy task, and only one stood out among the rest, based on three main factors.

First and foremost, the knowledge and professionalism of instructors is what distinguishes the value to beginner, novice and expert-level students. Being open and welcome in a structured environment of proficient instructors is absolutely essential.

Second, we found the accommodations and comfort outside of training to be second to none. Access to clean bathrooms, enjoyable surroundings with essential amenities is a must. Your travel experience, from arriving and departing Brazil to the beauty of the location, must be to our liking.

Last but not least, we considered the price for all of this, as well as a complete and comprehensive course structure.

What is the best BJJ camp in Brazil?

Bar none, the best BJJ camp in Brazil, for beginners and experts alike, is the complete package for eight days at the Florianopolis Island BJJ Camp in Brazil. Part of the reason for this, as compared to many training centers in Rio de Janeiro, is that everything you need while you’re on the island is included.

It’s also fully staffed and provides accommodations for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu trainers and students of all levels. The training is scheduled and structured at three different levels, so you know exactly where training is and what to expect.

It’s a very private and tailored camp, without the confusion and distractions of other BJJ training destinations. Their style and program are founded on respect and the true tenets of jiu jitsu. You’ll gain a true appreciation for the deep history of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu maintained at this camp, with a fulfilling mental and physical training regimen.

But aside from a positive and valuable experience during training, the Florianopolis Island BJJ camp is a unique location unlike anywhere else. Being right near 42 of the most beautiful beaches in the world, opportunities for surfing, wave boarding and scuba diving abound.

While Florianopolis, also known as the Magic Island, is one of Brazil’s capital cities, there are plenty of ways to explore the natural scenery, while also enjoying the city nightlife. Public transport is very affordable, so you’ll have no problem finding your way around.

It’s a place of natural beauty, well worth visiting even as a tourist. Compared to Rio, which is better known for its eccentric city life and excitement, it’s a much calmer and expansive tropical experience.

Programs, Schedule and Accommodations

Any place that might call itself the best BJJ camp in Brazil must deliver with a complete training program. At the Florianopolis Island Camp, you’re given three options for training, including a beginner, intermediate and advanced program.

Each session of the course is administered over six days, from Monday to Saturday. You can also select how long you want to stay, with packages starting at three days and two nights. While the camp advertises eight days, you can book up to 16 days in one package.

One of the camp’s highest priorities is that visitors feel safe, welcome and well trained. It’s not a mixed bag of training styles and experience levels, and it’s open to everyone wanting to learn authentic Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

In terms of rooms, they provide full accommodation, including a kitchen and bathroom. There are double rooms available for one or two people. While individuals will share one of these studio dorms with one other person, they come with group lessons and WIFI in one of the most gorgeous tropical locations in the world.

Another quality that makes this the best BJJ camp in Brazil is that there are also private rooms available in their luxurious two-bedroom houses, for one or two people. On top of coming with private kitchens and bathrooms, you also get private and intimate lessons at all experience levels.

These private rooms also come at a reasonable rate, especially if you’re travelling with another person. Flight transfer is included, so if you’re on a budget, you’ll be escorted right from the airport to the camp, and returned to the airport upon departure.

Being a capital city, Florianopolis has a ton of exhilarating nightlife, restaurants and tourist attractions. The beaches themselves are world class and are free to enjoy if you’re on a budget. There are also tropical jungles and majestic mountains to explore if you love hiking.

Interview with the Founder

Besides the reasons we think this is such a great bjj training camp, there are common questions people have before training in the martial art in its true place of origin. Perhaps there’s more you’d like to know before booking a visit to the camp today. That’s why we sat down with the camp’s owner and manager, Rodrigo Santelli to ask a few questions about the camp to get a more granular perspective for those wanting to visit and train.

How did the camp get started?

The Camp started 3 years ago when I decided to show the island for Bjj friends from all over the world. We’ve been operating as a Surf Camp too for more than a decade so the transition to bring people to learn and practice Bjj was natural. What is the BJJ scene like in Florianopolis?

It is pretty strong with many schools from the manly lineage of the traditional Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and a lot of people practicing and enjoying the Bjj Lifestyle.

Why should someone consider your camp?

I think that running the camp all year around (the guest just needs to check availability when they want come) is one good reason also the quality of the training here is excellent for all levels plus the vibe on and out off the mats is unbeatable.

What are you most proud of at your camp?

The quality of the classes and the friendships created at the gym

What is one thing visitors should know before they come train with you?

Florianópolis is a paradise !

Any other advice?

Always greet the black belts when you enter the dojo.

When is the best time to come visit?

The best time is when you can. We are waiting for you any time of the year. Oss.
