I’ve been testing out this gi for a little bit to see how it stands up. Let’s find out…

The Elite Sports BJJ Gi is hands down one of the highest quality, affordable BJJ gis available on the market.

The price point for this gi is really misleading. While on the one hand, it might look like a great entry-level gi because of its affordable price, it’s really a great gi for a seasoned veteran and tournament usage.

After spending some time wearing and using this gi, I don’t think you can go wrong. In my view, the Elite Sports BJJ Gi is hands down one of the highest quality, affordable BJJ gis available on the market.

About Elite Sports

Before we dive into the full gi review, let’s look at Elite Sports the company. Elite Sports is one of the leading martial arts sports equipment providers. A relative newcomer, they make everything from MMA gear, rash guards and BJJ gis. They seem to have a growing following of fans and are making good products at really reasonable prices. They have a USA, AU and UK based stores.

According to their website: “No longer will you have to pay a premium price for a premium product, Elite Sports is able to offer the best bang for your buck.

They definitely deliver on this promise with the Elite Sports Ultra Light Gi.

Design of the Elite Sports Ultra Light Gi

Simple and clean logos: how it should be.

I really like the simplicity of this gi. It has a minimalist design with just a few branded patches. While the gi is relatively basic in design, it is not bare-bones.

The Elite Sports logos look great but don’t hurt the eyes. Some other brands plaster their gis with their logo, which is not the case here.

The drawstring is thick and high quality. It pulls and adjusts easily. There are plenty of loops on the waistline as well, which is good.

Love the gi drawstring

I found that the collar/lapel is very sturdy. Likewise, the stitching is also sturdy (although, keep in mind that since this is a “light” gi it won’t be as strong/reinforced as some other gis on the market which will cost a lot more).

For this price point, the design quality is very good.

Gi Sizing

The Elite Sports Ultra Light BJJ Gi follows a standard sizing chart. I had no issues with my A3 fit (being 6.0′).

The Elite Sports Gi size chart is as follows:

Comfort of the Elite Sports Ultra Light Gi

The Elite Sports Ultra Light Gi strikes a good balance between comfort and sturdiness.

The gi is relatively lightweight but doesn’t feel cheap. In fact, it feels durable and stands up to gripping by your opponent.

This is not a light gi you will need to worry about someone gripping too hard.

Out of the box, the material is soft (unlike many other gis).

While I don’t feel like I am in a plush bathrobe, the gi is well constructed and has a great feel. It fits as a gi should. It’s not too baggy, but not super tight either.

The gi top is well-fitting and not too tight in the shoulders.  It breaks in very well.

The gi is preshrunk, but after a first wash, it will shrink just a bit (in my experience anyway).

Review Conclusion

What is not to love about this gi? Three words sum it up:

  • Lightweight
  • Durable
  • Affordable
I give the Elite Sports Ultra Light Gi a 5/5 rating.
